Telling the stories of the Afro-Latinx community and decolonizing the classical music canon

The Afro-Latinx Song & Opera Project is an innovative initiative reshaping and decolonizing the landscape of classical music. This project aims to broaden the traditional canon by incorporating the rich, yet often overlooked, contributions of Afro-Latinx composers and performers. Through an intersectional lens, the project delves into the cultural, historical, and social contexts that have shaped the Afro-Latinx musical experience, highlighting the vibrant diversity within this community.

Afro-Latinx Song and Opera Project commissions new works that tell the stories of Afro-Latin and Afro-Latinx communities and decolonizes the classical music canon by uplifting existing contributions and stories of Afro-Latinx composers.
